I am Edinburgh based architect / potter. During my studies in Aberdeen, Weimar, Basel, and Edinburgh I found my interest in sustainable and environmentally friendly ways of living and building. Through the art of making, I discovered clay as a material that can be found everywhere but is often overlooked – especially in the building industry. I started observing the behaviour of clay under different conditions in order to learn more about its qualities. This escalated in my nocturnal amusement behind the potter’s wheel.

I believe that small everyday objects can have a similar impact on our lives as the built environment. A mug, for example, can enhance our experience of satisfying the obligatory needs and can become almost a ritualistic medium. Therefore, I pay attention to details, material qualities, textures, and imperfections which can trigger emotional responses. This is a belief I share in both, architecture and pottery practice.
